Green banner

Look how awesome these holders are for frozen goodies! We have a HUGE kitchen at my camp and we love to cook or make treats with the kiddies. These would be awesome!
Popsicle (or even better frozen yogurt) holders

And this would be simply great whenever.
Crazy temporary hand tattoos! Also come in different animals and monsters.

Maybe you can tell that I'm already getting pretty excited about camp life! I'll be off learning and planning July and August in the next little bit while also learning my new role as a camp coordinator. It's going to get very busy very fast. Here's to staying busy!

New Feature!

Green banner

In light of another summer of camp starting I have decided to start a new feature, "Camp Day" where I will discuss trials and tribulations of camp life. This will be my fourth year working at this camp and should be one of the greatest yet! The month of June will be spent planning for two months of camp fun. I'm going to have to clean up my room and stuff all over the house because soon I will become immersed in camp life and won't be able to move when I get home!

Today is my OFFICIAL last day of summer or "freedom" for lack of a better word, before I start my job. And how did I spend this glorious day you ask? Volunteering at an elementary school track and field meet at the university's stadium. Now that sounds pretty fantastic if you know that I've been a camp counsellor the past three years and spend a lot of time around kids. But then keep in mind that I was outside from 9-4 in the most hotest day of the summer yet. As a redhead, some of you may understand that I was required to lather up THREE times today. Even after all that I ended up with a small burn on my neck, left hand and an awful farmers tan on my arms. The worst thing about that is it ruins my summer wardrobe staples of dresses and tank tops. But I guess that's alright....since I DO start work tomorrow! Perfect timing.

At least I didn't get my usual yearly burn, maybe I'm actually starting to learn something about being a redhead.

As long as I don't look like this:

Or this either...

Summer Vegetarian

Last summer I found that I was rarely eating meat just by chance so I decided to use that and just become a full blown vegetarian. And by full blown I mean I still ate fish so not THAT full blown. This lasted until Thanksgiving 2010 where I just HAD to eat turkey and etc. After that I just gave in. But here we are again at the beginning of another summer and I have already found that I barely eat any red meat.

I plan to keep like that and then slowly ease out my chicken intake and try the vegetarian thing again. Why you ask? I'd like to answer that with something to do with animal rights or even dietary restrictions or something but to be honest, it's really only because I feel healthier when I do it. I hate the feeling of having a big piece of meat or burger or whatever and feeling like I'm going to explode at either end at any minute (sorry for that picture). I like the fact that I can eat smaller portions more throughout the day without stuffing myself completely full and just feeling comfortable.

The only other thing is that I feel like such an inconvenience to my parents, friends and whomever I am eating with when they would need to prepare an entire different meal option for me. That's the tricky part. I'm not a picky eater in the least so I don't like being such a problem in food area. And that is why it's pretty hard to just become a vege head.

My rant for the day.

Vibrams! Vibrams?

As mentioned earlier, my I.T. band has been a constant problem for about 4 years now. After par-oozing the internet and stumbling across the blog, Running Toes and subsequently Daily Mile I have come to discover barefoot running. Now it's a bit different for me because I'm not the biggest fan of running outside or the outdoors in general so I tried running barefoot on the treadmill. And it was just fabulous. Everything felt great, pain free and natural. The only thing was that although it felt natural it also felt weird not wearing anything at all on my feet. So I came across Vibrams.

Although there have been differing reviews on the shoes I still feel like they are the ones for me! These are the pair I have my eye set on but we'll see how it actually goes once I hit the store in downtown London.

A little pink vibrant and orange and that's just like me, right?

Hockey Player Crush of the Day: Jarome Iginla

blue banner

Jarome Iginla
Calgary Flames

Best smile in the NHL hands down. His face and personality and lovely teeth just make me want to smile all over. He just exudes happiness and he's simply the best. And Canadian. I just could go on and on forever.

Sleeping Beauty 2011

Do you think this is purely a coincidence? Doesn't matter to me this is just awesome!

UPDATE: So I feel a tad bit embarrassed and stupid but this isn't Sleeping Beauty at all...it's actually a poke at Cinderella. AND it's photoshopped so the uncanny resemblance is not even in existence. Here's the actual original before someone made me go believe something that was false, silly internet. Side note: always be skeptical!

East Sides...I'm Through With You

For a good year East Side Mario's has been my restaurant of choice. I go there at home, at school, with family, boyfriend, friends. Whoever, whenever, whatever! I always pick East Sides, no matter what. The bread and garden salad swooped me off my feet and I fell in love at first bite. I even had my first legal drink (some berry concoction if I remember). After a year long relationship and experimenting with different drinks (cue Cotton Candy Cosmo for all the sugar lovers out there) I have come to be a little pissed and disgusted with the franchise.

Not only are they constantly changing there menus...which I guess isn't necessarily a bad thing if your into change but when your in such a strong relationship with something do you really want change all the time?! For me, too much is not always good. Anyways, Ryan and I went to have some lunch there today, our first time in longer than I usually like, to find that the portions are much smaller and the prices WAY pricier! For the price we paid for that lunch we could have gone to a nice restaurant somewhere downtown AND gotten drinks. The appetizer we split was the same amount as my meal, neither of which were fabulous.

Just to get to the point, I'm breaking up with East Sides. My loyalty and effort just hasn't made a difference and I feel it is just slipping away, not really keeping my wants and needs in mind anymore. Thanks for the times, it was definitely you and not me though.

So I have failed to post in multiple days which made me a little frantic and anxious deep down but it's for good reason I swear. This past Saturday I woke up and thought, "hey, let's browse Kijiji for cars" and as I was texted my Dad about a hilarious offer of $4500 for a Mini Cooper my Mom called and said she had heard of a car just in our price limit at dealership outside of London actually run by some "distant" family members.

We visited the place, test drove the car and Mom was the giddiest I have ever seen her in my life. Key phrases included:
"Oh my gosh it looks like no one ever put a cup of anything in these cup holders!"
"Look! There's a place for you to put coins!"
"No one has ever sat in these back seats before!"
"Cruise control?! OH MY GOD"
"The wipers are amazing"
"Please don't go that fast.."

We got back to the dealership, called Dad and bought the car. Don't I just have the best, most fun and entertaining, loving parents ever. Yea, I know! After we picked the car up on Monday and drove it home for the first time my Mom took a few glamour shots with me and my baby. And since we have no idea where the camera cord, this is the only picture you get to see of the CAR!

(This is actually my car, not some silly one off Google)

I always pictured myself driving a super, tiny car so I wasn't sure if this car would ever really be "me" or if I could pull off driving it. But today I took it on it's first trip to Guelph and I absolutely loved driving on the highway with it and it's now feeling more like mine.

Just always remember folks, dreams DO come true.

Hockey Player Crush of the Day: Ryane Clowe

blue banner

Ryane Clowe
San Jose Sharks

Ryane is another one of those players with "the eyes". He's a Newfoundlander and has 13 points in this years playoffs. Game 6 Sharks vs. Red Wings tonight, who will you be cheering for? Although at this point I'm kind of leaning towards the Sharks.

But back to Ryane, he's a pretty big agitator and we would appreciate it for the sake of good looks everywhere if he's more careful of his face during is fights. Please and thank you!

Late Lunch

My morning routine is as follows:
  1. Alarm goes off at 9:30
  2. Turn alarm OFF
  3. Sleep in til sometime between 10:30 and 11:30
  4. Perhaps put an outfit on
  5. Get my trusty computer
  6. View the happenings of the world
  7. Think about eating something
  8. Continue the day from there
Today I didn't get up until 12:30....and it ruined my entire morning. I was pretty upset until I realized that my amazing mother reorganized our fridge yesterday and she had left some food for me to make for myself. So I made toasted chicken sandwiches on little buns with some grapes and happy drinks! It was a pretty good damn lunch if I do say so myself (pretty impressed for an almost ruined morning). Ryan had two and I had one which is strange considering Ryan weighs at least 15 pounds lighter than me. Don't you just hate the young male metabolism?!

Happy Hallmark Holiday

Mother's Day is just another Hallmark excuse of a holiday...not that I hate it or anything it's just silly that we as a society have created a day in which we celebrate Moms. Are we really that forgetful and unthankful? I mean it's a great idea because Mom's do a heck of a lot but I'm just saying. Then we have Father's Day, Valentine's Day, Grandparent's Day....Secretary's Day?! Good grief. How's about we just appreciate the people that help us and that we love every day or is that too much to ask of these days?

Anyways, I decided while on twitter today to send Giada De Laurentiis a little tweet wishing her a Happy Mom's Day and if she could wish my mom the same (who has been a HUGE fan forever). And she did!

Cool right? My mom actually thought this was her Mother's Day gift. AWESOME! Thanks Giada, for making me seem that the best daughter in the world (there's no Daughter's Day...so stupid).

When I get a dog (set date before I hit 40, so we have a few years to go) I will be getting this little guy:

He's a little Labradoodle and just the cutest thing you have ever seen. He'll probably grow up to be a pretty big dog so I don't know how I feel about that yet but I mean, come on, look at him!

Graphics: Banner

I've been experimenting with HTML and coding and pictures and all this crazy blog stuff lately (if those are even the appropriate terms). It's caused multiple super late nights but also brought about the buttons on my sidebar and my "Hockey Crush" feature banner. But since this has caused so much confusion and slight frustration for myself I thought I might let you in on some of my new secrets.

I first realized that everyone has these buttons to advertise and share their blog, so I decided to first experiment with banners and buttons. After making a few buttons for click-through labels (i.e. Hockey Crush and Lists) they were too small, didn't fit well with the look of my blog and I hated them. So then I decided to try to make a banner for my Hockey Crush feature. And this is how it went:

1. First I picked a background. For me I wanted to keep it simple so I just googled a colour and dragged it over to the desktop.

2. Edit it in whatever picture edited application you like, I just use Picnik. Here is where I resized the banner to whatever dimensions I liked, threw in some cool text and added a border.

3. Next you have to post the image to a image hosting site. This could be Flickr, Photobucket, Picasa (maybe). For this particular image I was using Flickr.

4. In Flickr if you then click the picture and hit the little arrow beside the Twitter button a few options will appear.

5. You want to click "Grab the HTML/BB Code"

6. Here you will see crazy numbers and letters and symbols lying all over the place. Copy the code that you see. For example:

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/62327111@N08/5688293757/" title="blue banner by DeeBrockmann23, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5302/5688293757_257bd808e6_t.jpg" width="100" height="19" alt="blue banner"></a>

7. Paste the code either into a HTML gadget on your homepage or within a post by clicking "Edit HTML"

8. You then want to change what I have bolded below to the site you want the banner to direct readers to. Make sure that the QUOTATION MARKS are still in the code!

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/62327111@N08/5688293757/" title="blue banner by DeeBrockmann23, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5302/5688293757_257bd808e6_t.jpg" width="100" height="19" alt="blue banner"></a>

9. You can preview the image and see if it is to your likeness, if you don't like the size you can go back to step #5 and below the code you will see you can click down a few different size options.

And there you have it, how I made my banner and my ordeal with buttons will be posted at a later date. Here is the code just a little more simplified:

<a href="The URL where you would like the image to direct your readers"><img src="The URL that is hosting your image"></a>

Hockey Player Crush of the Day: Henrik Lundqvist

blue banner

Henrik Lundqvist
New York Rangers

I'm not going to beat around the bush here, this man is plain stunning. I don't follow New York at all, and I probably never will but for the sake of hockey crushes, this man cannot be left out. Congrats on snagging the last playoff spot in the East this year.

I've been trying to keep the pics of the guys actually playing hockey but you can barely see Henrik at all with his silly goalie mask. Feast your eyes upon this:

I'm a Sick Monster

Yesterday around dinner time my throat started hurting, nose running and just an overall sickness feeling sunk in. I thought it was allergies since the grass was just cut yesterday as well but by the time I went to bed, all sickness had broken loose.

I couldn't get to sleep last night because I needed to keep my mouth open to breathe and that didn't sit too well with the mouthguard either. So today I spent the day aching all over, with kleenexes surrounding my body. Literally every part and muscle of my body hurts AND my lip is chapped and I just don't do lip chap or anything on my lips for that matter.

I thought taking a hot shower would help but I still feel the same as this morning. And I apologize for the whining today, BUT it hardly feels like whining since it's the honest truth. So I've been watching HBO's Big Love all day and I'm addicted. So many subplots and scariness! I will now publicize my love for the show just because I can. And because I'm a little crazy from being a sick monster.

Hockey Player Crush of the Day: Jonathan Ericsson

blue banner

Jonathan Ericsson
Detroit Red Wings

In all honesty...I know nothing of this fellow except for his nice, dark looks. Plus he plays for Detroit and this is probably one the my least followed teams. And in light of that I promise to watch Detroit vs. San Jose tonight. Enjoy my friends, enjoy.

Outdoors Photo Shoot

In honour of the wonderful day outside today I really wanted to take a few pictures with the boyfriend. Although he was pretty whiny about it, he still cooperated which was very sweet (since I did make him breakfast, lunch, cookies and tea today).

I kind of love the angle of these photos so they'll be keepers for awhile I do declare. But before these even happened I wanted to take some pictures of a sweater I had swapped for at the end of the year back in Guelph. You see, at the end of the year our University Centre has a stuff swap where you can take anything for free and leave anything you just don't need/want anymore for others. So after my exams I got some clothes together that I hadn't worn since September really and dropped them off before heading up to work. A few days later a friend spotted this beauty of a sweater and although it's pretty itchy and rather HUGE on me, it's still pretty great.
